Timelines is the presentation of two sequential frames as they appear on an uncut roll of 35mm film. Upon discovery they are scanned and printed as a diptych. I have not consciously set out to create diptychs and only become aware of them through the editing of my work.

They are the result of years of personal photojournalism which for me was the antidote to the structured engagement of my commercial and editorial art practice. I afforded myself the freedom to be spontaneous and free of any constraints whatsoever. I always felt it to be my true artistic expression and the fuel that kept me passionate about my work.

It has been only in the last few years that I’ve paid attention to the occurrence of these diptychs and started to actively search for them among my personal archives. In the process of editing I’ve come to re-experience my past but more importantly to recognize that there is a spirit present in this work that I’ve never been fully aware of and these images give that spirit a real voice.

The spontaneous approach to creating this work reminds that it is beyond thinking and so much more about seeing with my heart.

As I continue to discover these sequences and the insights they reveal I’ve come to the realization that I am building a portrait the unconscious.
